Licorice Root (Glycyrrhiza glabra)

Definition

Used for centuries in traditional medicine for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immune-supporting properties, often for digestive and respiratory concerns. Standard licorice contains glycyrrhizin, which may raise blood pressure with prolonged use; DGL (deglycyrrhizinated licorice) has most glycyrrhizin removed and is considered gentler for regular use.
