Celery

Definition

Apium graveolens has traditional uses as a diuretic for water retention, an anti-inflammatory for arthritis and gout, and a mild blood-pressure-lowering agent thanks to compounds called phthalides. Seed extracts may have a calming effect. Celery seed can stimulate the uterus and should be avoided during pregnancy; may also irritate inflamed kidneys and interact with blood thinners or blood pressure medication.
